2 Storey extension and refurbishment

This 3 bedroom family home had one lounge and a fairly small, rather dark kitchen. It was a little bijoux for a growing family. We had to work around a recently refurbished bathroom but otherwise our clients were very open to ideas. In optimising the basic plan we went through several iterations before agreeing on what was built.

Will designed a 2 storey extension where the garage was, in order that the property gained a large, 2nd lounge, a larger kitchen and utility room with side entrance, both with new windows for more light and on the 2nd storey, a generous master bedroom with ensuite bathroom.

The interior design was a collaboration between Suzy and the clients. Suzy drafted ideal space-plans and designed the ensuite bathroom and joinery designs and discussed colour and finish options with the clients, attending meetings with trades, joiners and suppliers and collated collections of suggested items to purchase. Suzy also provided paint and tile samples and designed the electrical plans for the extension

The wider front door with side lights, the bifold doors to the garden and the increase in windows overall create a much greater amount of natural light throughout the property.

All in all, the house retains its cosy, seaside cottage feel, while being elevated by bespoke joinery and lovely lighting and all the details needed for comfortable 21st century living. Storage spaces in particular are hugely increased and most importantly, it's occupants are very happy with the end result and that they can stay put, rather than move house, to get what they wanted and needed.
